The Bank of England

The world’s oldest central bank.

The Bank of England

The Bank is the oldest central bank in the world. Since it foundation 250 years ago, it has struggled to finance our wars and to save us from the greed and exuberance of the City bankers. You can see it all in the museum guarded by the doormen in pink coats and you will come away slightly better informed about the horrors and risks of mixing politics and money - something that our leaders need to learn!
