The ancient church for Kings and Queens
Westminster Abbey is over 1000 years old. There are tombs to die for since everyone who was anyone was buried here. There are Kings, Queens, princes, writers, singers and cleaners in every corner. But when you get drowned in all that history, just look up at the ceiling and gasp at its beauty. How does all that stonework stay up there? Then steal out into the cloisters for a cup of a coffee and a quiet garden.
Transport: Westminster Underground. Circle, District & Jubilee lines.
Best time: Open Monday - Saturday 09.30 to 4.30 but get there at opening or an hour before closing to avoid the crowds. Last admission 3.30.
